Margin and markup use different starting points

A 50% markup does not equal a 50% margin. OfficeQ shows both so pricing decisions are not built on the wrong percentage.

Profit margin (Price − Cost) ÷ Price

The percentage of selling price left as gross profit.

Markup (Price − Cost) ÷ Cost

The percentage added to cost to create the selling price.

Price from target margin Cost ÷ (1 − Margin)

The selling price needed to preserve a chosen margin.

Results are estimates for pricing decisions and are not accounting, tax or legal advice. The Advanced mode treats listed fees and overhead as pricing costs, which may differ from their formal financial-statement classification.
